Airlines Step Up the Economy Class Experience

According to Bloomberg reporter Justin Bachman, free meals and alcoholic beverages are returning to some long domestic flights and complimentary snacks are common once again. American Airlines is even dropping its fees for streaming audio and video. So what’s with the new freebies? Data from industry trade group Airlines for America shows that these improvements are funded by billions of dollars in profit, the article points out, including $12 billion reported by the 10 largest U.S. carriers in the first half of this year. That is around $700 million more than the same period last year.
